Over 60 members of the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance (EODA) met at the Dennison Railroad Depot Museum on Friday, August 25, 2023. Recognized as a National Historic Landmark, the Dennison Railroad Depot, is the most significant remaining example in the nation of a railroad canteen still reflecting its WWII heritage. During WWII, 1.3 million service members were served free food by volunteers at the canteen as they were going off to fight in the war. Jacob Masters, Director of Museums, shared during his presentation the hospitality at the canteen became so well known that the nickname Dreamsville USA was given to the Dennison Railroad Depot by the soldiers. Also on exhibit at the museum was “Celebrating 90 Years: Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District” displaying an immersive story of the District’s beginning, progress through the years, highlights and projections for the future. All meeting attendees had an opportunity to tour the museum that attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year and contributes significantly to the local tourism economy. The meeting was attended by representatives from the majority of the counties in the 16-county EODA region which provided great networking opportunities in a single location. The meeting included a standard business agenda and concluded with a meal catered by the Dennison Yard restaurant. The next meeting of the EODA will be held in November 2023 with the location yet to be determined. Meeting details and a link to register will be posted soon.
